About the program:
The Joint Supervision Program is a flexible scholarship program that aims to provide university lecturers or teaching assistants with a master's degree with the opportunity to complete their postgraduate studies and obtain a doctorate from an international university, if they are unable to travel to spend the entire duration of their studies outside the Kingdom. This is achieved through an agreement with an international university abroad.
This program will not only benefit female students at the University of Jeddah, but will also contribute to enriching knowledge with diverse and distinctive scientific contributions. The program will also encourage joint scientific research and the exchange of expertise between faculty members at the University of Jeddah and foreign universities. This is in addition to attracting the best educational and research expertise through the conclusion of prestigious scientific agreements.
Registration process:
The student submits the application, supported by the required documents, to the direct supervisor of the academic department, for presentation to the department council. Enrollment in the supervision program is decided by the University Council, subject to the approval of the deans of the college and graduate studies, and the approval of the standing committee. The decision specifies the student's academic degree, general and specific specialization, the external university that will award the degree, and the duration of study. The external university nominates an external supervisor from among its teaching staff members, in accordance with its own rules and conditions and the terms of the contract or agreement concluded with it. The external supervisor is the primary supervisor of the academic thesis.
Academic requirements:
|
The applicant must hold a master’s degree and work as a teaching assistant or lecturer at the university. |
|
The student must be registered in a program in her field of specialization. |
|
The applicant must pass the preparatory program for teaching assistants and lecturers organized by the university. |
|
The applicant must meet the admission requirements of foreign universities, including the English language requirement. |
Academic supervisor visit:
The student is obligated to visit the headquarters of the external university to meet with the external supervisor and discuss the results she has reached in the scientific dissertation research, and to review the techniques related to the study. Visits shall be made once or twice a year (unless the agreement concluded with the external university or the external university regulations stipulate otherwise). The student may also undertake a scientific trip (other than visits) during her study period, once, to either inside or outside the Kingdom. The student is also entitled, once during her study period, to participate in a scientific conference or symposium, provided that it is directly related to her specialization or the topic of her research.
The external supervisor may visit the university twice a year (in accordance with the agreement concluded with the university) to meet with the student and her local supervisor, monitor the progress of the student's study, and discuss with them the results she has reached in the scientific dissertation research.
Evaluation and Certification:
The foreign university forms a thesis discussion committee and informs the student's Deanship of Graduate Studies and her local supervisor. The foreign university also awards the academic degree in accordance with its own terms and standards. The thesis discussion committee's decision is made in accordance with the rules and regulations of the foreign university.
