Pursuant to the provisions of Article (5) of the Scholarship and Training Regulations for University Staff, the following conditions shall apply to the scholarship of Teaching Assistants and Lecturers, whether internally or externally:
A Teaching Assistant or Lecturer must:

Be a Saudi national. |
|
|
Have obtained admission from an academically recognized university. |
|
|
If female and undertaking an overseas scholarship, be accompanied by a lawful male guardian (mahram) throughout the duration of the scholarship. |
|
|
Not exceed thirty (30) years of age for a Teaching Assistant and thirty-five (35) years of age for a Lecturer. The University Council may grant exceptions to this condition. |
|
|
Undertake to serve at the university upon return for a period at least equal to the duration of the scholarship. |
Additional Conditions for Overseas Scholarships
(According to the recommendations of the Permanent Committee for Scholarship and Training and directives of the Ministry of Education)
- The scholarship must be for an academic degree (Master’s, PhD, or Medical Fellowship).
Language study is permitted only if it is a condition of admission to the academic degree (i.e., scholarships for language study alone are not permitted).
- If admission is conditional upon English language proficiency, the following shall apply:

A minimum score of 5.5 in IELTS (or its equivalent in TOEFL) if the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree was studied in English. |
|
|
A minimum score of 4.0 in IELTS (or its equivalent in TOEFL) if the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree was studied in Arabic |
- The university must rank among the top 200 universities worldwide according to one of the recognized international rankings (e.g., QS).
- Successful completion of the “Scholarship Qualification Program.”
- Scholarship must be to reputable universities in developed countries, recommended by the Ministry of Education, and not suspended due to overcrowding of Saudi students.
Scholarship for the PhD Degree
Scholarship for obtaining a PhD degree and medical fellowships for Teaching Assistants and Lecturers shall be limited to overseas scholarship.
Exceptions include:

Internal scholarships for Sharia disciplines and Arabic language. |
|
|
Scholarships to King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). |
|
|
Saudi medical fellowships. |
|
|
Teaching Assistants and Lecturers who previously obtained a qualification through overseas scholarship via the university or the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program, provided there are compelling reasons preventing overseas scholarship. |
This is pursuant to University Council Resolution No. (17), adopted in its first meeting of the Academic Year 1444H.
Regulations Governing Internal Scholarships for Teaching Assistants and Lecturers

The candidate must not exceed thirty (30) years of age for a Teaching Assistant and thirty-five (35) years for a Lecturer. The University Council may grant exceptions to this condition. |

|
Fulfillment of all conditions stated under “First: General Regulations.” |
|
|
Approval shall not be granted for internal Master’s scholarship requests exceeding 20% of the total number of Teaching Assistants in the department.* |
|
|
Approval shall not be granted for internal PhD scholarship requests exceeding 20% of the total number of Teaching Assistants in the department.* |
|
|
A PhD scholarship candidate must have at least one scientific research paper published (or accepted for publication) in a peer-reviewed journal or scientific conference. |
|
|
The percentage shall be calculated annually from the total number of Teaching Assistants/Lecturers in the department. At least one candidate may be accepted if the percentage results in less than one.* |
|
|
Applications within each category (Teaching Assistant/Lecturer) shall be ranked based on seniority of appointment, then by age (older candidate given priority). |
No exceptions to the scholarship conditions shall be granted except as explicitly stated above.
