The Joint Supervision Program is one of the flexible scholarship pathways designed to provide University lecturers and teaching assistants who hold a Master’s degree with the opportunity to pursue their postgraduate studies and obtain a PhD degree from an international university, in cases where traveling abroad for the full duration of study is not feasible. This is implemented through a formal agreement with a recognized international university.
This program not only benefits University of Jeddah students, but also contributes to knowledge enrichment through diverse and distinguished academic contributions. It promotes joint scientific research and the exchange of expertise between faculty members at the University of Jeddah and the partner international university. In addition, the program supports the attraction of distinguished academic and research expertise through reputable international agreements.
The applicant submits a request to her direct supervisor within the academic department, supported by the required documents, for presentation before the Department Council.
Enrollment in the Joint Supervision Program is approved by a decision of the University Council based on:

Approval of the Dean of Graduate Studies
Approval of the Permanent Committee

The external university awarding the degree
Duration of study
The partner international university nominates an external supervisor from among its faculty members in accordance with its applicable rules and the terms stipulated in the agreement.
The external supervisor shall serve as the principal supervisor of the dissertation.
The applicant must:
Hold a Master’s degree and be appointed as a Teaching Assistant or Lecturer at the university.
Be enrolled in a program within her field of specialization.
Successfully complete the preparatory program for Teaching Assistants and Lecturers organized by the university.
Fulfill the admission requirements of the partner international university, including English language proficiency requirements.
The student must visit the external university to meet with the external supervisor, discuss research findings, and review relevant study methodologies and technologies.
Visits shall take place once or twice annually (unless otherwise stipulated in the agreement with the external university or its internal regulations).
The student may undertake one scientific mission (separate from the required supervisory visits) during her study period, either inside or outside the Kingdom.
The student is entitled, once during her study period, to participate in a conference or scientific seminar directly related to her specialization or dissertation topic.
The external supervisor may visit the university twice annually (in accordance with the agreement) to meet with the student and the local supervisor, review academic progress, and discuss research findings.
The external university shall form the dissertation defense committee and notify the student, the Deanship of Graduate Studies, and the local supervisor.
The external university awards the academic degree in accordance with its rules and standards.
The decision of the dissertation examination committee shall be governed by the regulations and bylaws of the external university.
