General Provisions for Scholarships

  • Good Conduct

    The scholarship recipient must maintain good conduct, uphold the reputation of their country, attend their studies diligently, and complete the program within the duration specified in their scholarship decision.

    Requirement to Notify the Cultural Attaché Before Departure

    The scholarship recipient is not allowed to be absent from their place of study without first notifying the Saudi Cultural Attaché.

    Concurrent Enrollment in Two Programs

    A scholarship recipient may not enroll in two graduate programs simultaneously, except if the University Council grants an exception.

    Promotion During Scholarship

    An employee on scholarship or sent abroad for study, or attached to a training course longer than six months (inside or outside the Kingdom), is not eligible for promotion during that period.

    Counting Scholarship Duration for Promotion

    The duration of scholarship, study leave, or assignment does not count toward the required experience for promotion if the purpose of the scholarship or leave was not achieved.

    Counting Scholarship Duration in Annual Leave

    The period of studying abroad, study assignment within the Kingdom, or training (inside or outside) of one year or more does not count toward the accrual of annual leave.

    Suspension of Allowances During Scholarship

    Allowances are paid monthly along with the employee’s salary but are reduced proportionally if the salary is reduced. Allowances are suspended if the salary is stopped and are not paid during scholarship periods or when compensating for leave.

    Obligation to Work After Completion of Studies

    After completing their scholarship, the recipient must work for the sponsoring institution for a period equal to the duration of their scholarship. If they fail to do so, they are obliged to repay all financial costs spent on their scholarship, either fully or proportionally to the remaining duration.

    The competent minister may exempt the recipient from working at the sponsoring institution if they will work for another government entity funded by the public budget, or partially (up to half the required period) if joining a government entity not funded by the public budget or the private sector.

    Assignment of Administrative Duties

    A scholarship recipient (teaching assistant or lecturer) pursuing graduate studies domestically may be assigned administrative or teaching duties appropriate to their field of study, provided these do not affect their academic performance, as approved by the department council.

    Accompanying Spouse for Training Scholarships

    According to Royal Decree No. 8073/R dated 13/5/1406H, spouses of employees sent abroad for training are not permitted to accompany them, as training courses are generally shorter than full academic study programs.
